PROBLEM


The following error is encountered when attempting to Install or Uninstall a VIPRE product:

'There is a problem with this Window Installer package. A program run as part of this package did not finish as expected.'

  • VIPRE Email Security
  • All Supported Environments


SOLUTION


If you're experiencing Error 1722, this means that a generalized error occurred during the installation. Since this error is not usually very specific, it is suggested to contact Support directly so a technician can review your installation logs to get a better idea of the cause of this error.

Here what you can do to fix this and try to successfully install VIPRE in case you are facing error 1722:


If VIPRE is listed inside of Programs & Features (Or Add/Remove Programs), attempt to remove it. If you receive an error, check for it inside our:


If VIPRE is NOT listed inside of Programs & Features (Or Add/Remove Programs), try running the Microsoft Fixit:



Here are some instructions on running this tool:

  1. Click the blue Run Now button on the site linked above.
  2. Run the program downloaded
  3. Click the Accept button
  4. Microsoft Fix It will scan the machine for Windows Install and Uninstall issues
  5. Select Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply
  6. Select Uninstalling
  7. Select VIPRE from the programs listed and click Next
  8. Select Yes, try uninstall
  9. Make sure all the Listed issues are checked and click Next
  10. You will get a result status notifying you that the process succeeded.
  11. Select one of the feedback options and click Next
  12. Click the Close button

Once this is complete, VIPRE should have been removed from the system.


CAUSE


Many of these errors can occur with general computer usage. Uninstalling applications, applying updates, and sometimes manual changes to some Windows components can cause these problems to surface.

Error 1722 is a general error associated with the Windows Installer.

Method 1: Check if the Installer Service is running. To do so, follow these steps.

a.Click Start, Click Run and type “Services.msc” (without quotes) and press Enter.

b.Double-click Windows Installer.

c.Set the Startup type of Windows Installer to Manual.

d.Click Start to start the service. Note down the error message if any. Click OK.

Method 2: Reregister the Windows Installer. Follow these steps for the same.

a.Quit all Windows programs.

b.Click Start, All Programs, Accessories and click Run. Type “msiexec /unregister” (without quotes) in the Open box, and then click OK.

c.Click Start, All Programs, Accessories and click Run. Type “msiexec /regserver” (without quotes) in the Open box, and then click OK. Restart your computer.

Check to see if the problem persists.

Both methods didn't work. At method 1: Startup type was arleady set to manual. So i tried with automacally, and it didn't work.

(I know this response is very late but I just want to share my experience with the error) I encountered same issue when I ran installer on Windows 2012 R2. So one of my colleagues advised me to perform the following, and installation went through successfully.

- Renamed C:ProgramDataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys folder to MachineKeys.old
- Recreate C:ProgramDataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys folder
- Moved C:ProgramDataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys.old to C:Temp

- Re-run the installer

I tried this on my computer and it worked https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928080 I wasn't down loading the flight simulator but it still worked for me :)

Added power shell path %SYSTEMROOT%System32WindowsPowerShellv1.0; in environment variable.
